Prior to exporting,   plants are removed from their growing containers or dug from the field. Foliage may be removed to help reduce transpiration. Then the entire plant and root ball is pressured washed to remove soil and any residues. 

If required by the country's phyto-sanitary regulations plants are dipped to remove any pest which may be looking for a free ride. The entire plant is submerged to make sure that the plant has been completely treated. Each plant's root ball is packed with spagnum moss to retain moisture and allow new roots to grow while in transit.
